Bob Moses: Back Down Music Video
A Documentary-Style Portrait of Life on Tour
I was brought on by Grammy-nominated electronic duo Bob Moses (Domino Recording Co.) to direct the official music video for "Back Down," the lead single from their sophomore album Battle Lines. This was the first time the band appeared in one of their own music videos, so capturing their authentic selves was essential.
The song became a streaming and crowd favorite, with the video amassing over 1.8 million views on YouTube and released across major platforms including iHeartRadio and Apple Music. My approach was documentary-style: capture the unfiltered reality of tour life. I contrasted gritty black-and-white footage from the road—hotel room jams, tour bus rides, and candid backstage moments—with HD footage shot on anamorphic lenses that captured the vibrance and richness of their live performances. Everything was filmed during the opening dates of their sold-out Battle Lines Tour.
We shot across multiple cities, including their hometown of Vancouver. As the band shared: "We got to shoot some of this in our hometown of Vancouver on streets and in venues that we spent a lot of time growing up in, which felt fitting." Building on my chemistry with the band Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance and being able to build on their trust and translate my creative vision was key to capturing genuine moments while maintaining the raw energy of their performance.
